As Stranger Things fans anxiously anticipate the show's fifth and final season, stars Charlie Heaton and Natalia Dyer were waiting for something a bit more timely — a taxi!

The costar couple were photographed hailing a cab in New York City this week, with Heaton, 29, wearing a complementary outfit to Dyer, 28.

The pair, who generally keep their off-screen relationship private, both donned black trench coats and khaki colored pants. While Heaton opted for a pair of casual sneakers, Dyer accessorized her look with a pair of Gucci loafers, a multi-colored scarf and a black purse.

The duo first met when they were cast on the Netflix series as Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers, and fans couldn't help but notice their chemistry when the show premiered in July 2016. As their characters fell for each other in 1984, their romance outside the show began to blossom.

Within months of the show's release, fans began to speculate that the two actors were a couple in real life. The dating rumors ramped up in 2017 when they were spotted together at the Los Angeles International Airport after attending the Golden Globes. The two eventually made their relationship public when they made their red carpet debut at the 2017 Fashion Awards in London after fielding almost a year of romance rumors.

In 2018, the couple stepped out for the Dior Addict Lacquer Plump event in Los Angeles and cozied up on the carpet despite tabloid reports they had split at the time. Heaton and Dyer most recently attended the 2023 Brooklyn Artists Ball in New York City in April.

While speaking with GQ in February 2020, Heaton explained they chose to keep their romance under wraps because "we didn't really know what the relationship was," though he acknowledged that the "caginess" surrounding their relationship "might have been unnecessary."

As Stranger Things fan eagerly wait for the highly anticipated final installment of the sci-fi series, show creators and brothers Ross and Matt Duffer teased their plans for the show's endgame. In a conversation with TheWrap in May 2022, Ross revealed that some Netflix executives actually teared up when they announced their plans for season 5.

"We do have an outline for season 5 and we pitched it to Netflix and they really responded well to it," he said. "I mean, it was hard. It's the end of the story. I saw executives crying who I've never seen cry before and it was wild."

Dyer and Heaton's costar David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper, previously told Variety that he knows how the series ends and "it's quite moving and quite beautiful."

Speaking with Today's Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager in January 2023, Sadie Sink — who plays Max Mayfield — teased that while she doesn't know much about the upcoming season, she knew it would be "emotional." She added, "Spoiler-free, just with the way my character ended in season 4, I have no idea what is going to happen. But I'll be there."
