Stranger Things’ Gaten Matarazzo Thinks Season 5 Should ‘Kill More People’
Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo hopes that the upcoming fifth season of the series is much more brutal than any past season.
Speaking during a recent appearance at MegaCon Orlando, Matarazzo was asked what he hopes to see in the upcoming season. Surprisingly, the star wants to see more characters not make it out of the season.
“It might sound messed up but we should kill more people,” Matarazzo said (via CBR). “This show would be so much better if the stakes were much higher, like at any moment any of these kids can kick it. I feel like we’re all too safe.”
While Stranger Things is no stranger to killing off characters, the main cast has remained relatively safe throughout their adventures. Matarazzo is not the only cast member who thinks some characters need to go. His co-star Millie Bobby Brown echoed his sentiments to The Wrap in 2022 while joking about the cast getting too big by Season 4.
“Last night [at the premiere], we couldn’t even take one group picture because there were like 50 of us. I was like, ‘You need to start killing people off,’” Brown said. “The Duffer brothers are two sensitive Sallies that don’t want to kill anyone off. We need to be Game of Thrones.”
Stranger Things Season 4 was a massive success for Netflix
Stranger Things is set in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. When a young boy vanishes, a small town uncovers a mystery involving secret experiments, terrifying supernatural forces, and one strange little girl.
The series currently stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Joe Keery, Charlie Heaton, Sadie Sink, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Cara Buono, and Brett Gelman.
Stranger Things Season 4 set a record for Netflix, having been viewed for more than 287 million hours during the week of May 23-30. That’s not only good enough for the top spot of the week for Netflix, but it’s also more than enough to break the record for the streaming platform’s biggest-ever premiere weekend for an English-language series. That was previously held by the second season of Bridgerton (193 million hours).
