'Stranger Things': There will be more of excellent Erica in Season 3
Matt and Ross Duffer, the twin brothers who are Stranger Things’ showrunners and series creators, sat down with Yahoo Entertainment and discussed the second season of their celebrated Netflix show with us. We covered quite a bit of Season 2, so if you’re not up to date, consider this your fair warning — spoilers ahead.
One of the true standouts from Stranger Things 2 was Erica, the little sister of Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin). Popping up only a handful of times, the young dynamo had little patience for her nerdy older brother’s interests and activities and was only too happy to tease him for his lack of success with girls. If you enjoyed the little lady, you’re not alone. The Duffer Bros. were well aware of the talent of the actress they found to portray her, 11-year-old Priah Ferguson.
“I love Erica,” Matt Duffer said with a smile. “[Ferguson] was just a local hire we made in Atlanta. Erica wasn’t even supposed to be in [Season 2] as much as she was. We fell in love with this girl.”
“There will definitely be more Erica in Season 3,” added Ross Duffer. “That is the fun thing about the show — you discover stuff as you’re filming. We were able to integrate more of her in, but not as much you want because the story [was] already going. ‘We got to use more Erica’ — that was one of the first things we said in the writers’ room.”
“I thought she’s very GIF-able, if that’s a word,” said Matt Duffer. “She was great.”
GIF-able? You bet she is.
The Duffer Bros. told Yahoo Entertainment that they don’t do product placement in Stranger Things:
