Streaming Ratings: AMC Shows ‘Dark Winds,’ ‘A Discovery of Witches’ Get Netflix Boost
AMC made a bet earlier this year that licensing a number of its shows to Netflix would help them find more viewers. That bet appears to have paid off.
Two AMC shows, Dark Winds and A Discovery of Witches, are among the top 10 streaming titles for the week of Aug. 19-25. They were added to Netflix at the beginning of that week as part of a deal struck in July to place about a dozen AMC shows on the service, complete with branding as the “AMC Collection.” (The shows will be available for 12 months.)

It’s not new territory for AMC, which partially credited Netflix for a huge spike in ratings for Breaking Bad’s final season and has also licensed The Walking Dead and Better Call Saul, among others, to the streamer in the past.
Dark Winds drew 929 million minutes of viewing for the week, good for fourth place overall. A Discovery of Witches placed seventh with 849 million minutes.
Prison Break finished first among all titles for the third straight week, racking up 1.43 billion minutes of watch time on Hulu and Netflix. The only other title to crack 1 billion minutes was Netflix’s movie The Union (1.13 billion), which fell by just 15 percent week-to-week.
Original series had a bit of a down week. The Umbrella Academy remained in first on that list but fell by nearly half, from 1.39 billion minutes to 715 million. Emily in Paris also slipped by about 16 percent to 662 million minutes. The top newcomer was the Mexican drama The Accident with 554 million minutes on Netflix.
In the movie rankings, Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter One debuted on Max with a fairly modest 223 million minutes of viewing.
Nielsen’s streaming ratings cover viewing on TV sets only and don’t include minutes watched on computers or mobile devices. The ratings only measure U.S. audiences, not those in other countries. The top streaming titles for Aug. 19-25, 2024, are below.
