Summer Concert Series to return to downtown, kicks off June 1 with AC/DC tribute band
ZANESVILLE ? The City of Zanesville announced the third season of the Summer Concert Series on Thursday, before Colt Ford took to the stage at Secrest Auditorium.
The Ford concert was a success, said the city's community development director Matt Schley, with 900 tickets sold. Profits from the concert will go toward the Summer Concert Series.
First up is AC/DC tribute band Thunderstruck on June. 1 "Every year we try to get feedback from people who have attended the shows, and we try to listen and accommodate what people are saying," Schley said. "A lot of people really wanted to hear a little more rock and roll, so we tried to accommodate that."
On June 15, party band Naked Party Girls will play. The band's website describes them as "the best party in the galaxy," with a cast of 12 plus musicians. The website shows video clips of covers from artists as diverse as Bon Jovi, Naughty by Nature, Tina Turner and the Village People.
The Conspiracy Band returns on June 29, following a performance during last year's concert series. They feature high-energy multipart vocals covering a wide array of artists.
Jimmy Buffett tribute band A1A will play on July 13. Their website describes them as the "official and original Jimmy Buffett tribute show."
North To Nashville will play on July 27. The four piece country band describes its influences as Chris Stapleton, Eric Church, Jason Aldean, Brooks and Dunn, and Old Dominion.
On Aug. 10, That Arena Rock Show will play. They perform a tribute to 1970s and 1980s hard rock, including Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, and Guns N Roses.
Wrapping up the Summer Concert Series is Southern Accents, a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers tribute band. They perform on Sept. 7.
"Everything I have heard from local businesses has been very positive," Schley said of the previous Summer Concert Series. "It brings people downtown on a Thursday night." Local restaurants have described a spike in business on concert nights compared to a regular Thursday, he said. The concerts are free, and take place in the Secrest Auditorium parking lot. Food and beverages are available from a variety of vendors.
