Summer music festivals in and around San Diego: a guide

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Attention musical festival fanatics: it’s time to nail down your down summertime music plans.

From country to electronic and all genres in-between, the options are plenty when it comes finding local and nearby music events with the tunes that best suit you preference.

Here’s a breakdown of summertime music festivals in and around the region (in order by date):

Summer concerts in San Diego: A guide to outdoor shows

July

San Diego Bayfest: Held at Waterfront Park on July 20, this reggae-forward event has a long lineup for a single-day festival. Some featured artists include Sublime, Atmosphere, Goldfinger, Barrington Levy, Makua Rothman and Kyle Smith. General admission tickets are $85.58 with upgrades available.

Outlaw Music Festival: The event includes some longtime music legends who will play to a crowd at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in the South Bay on July 29.. For a price of $54.35 a ticket, music lovers can catch big names like Willie Nelson & Family, Bob Dylan, and John Mellencamp.

August

—  Endless Sunsets: This festival will offer up a little soul music by group The Sacred Souls, along with some bluegrass-influenced folk with bands like Trampled By Turtles Head. Also on the lineup is The Dip and Creature Canyon. Snag your tickets for $78.05 while they last and plan on heading to Waterfront Park on Aug. 3

Baja Beach Fest: This three-day musical festival will require a little travel as it takes place slightly south of the U.S. border at Rosarito Beach in Mexico. There will be performances by over 30 Reggaeton and Latin artists like Rauw Alejandro, Peso Pluma, Kali Uchis and more. Admission for the for full weekend is on sale for $439 with upgrades available.

SoCal Taco Fest: Held at Waterfront Park on Aug. 17, the music festival will be paired with all tacos — and lots of them. The musical performers slated to paly this event include Vanilla Ice, Smash Mouth, Los Amigos Invisibles, Xavier the X-Man, and more. General admission tickets are $49 and VIP tickets are $175.

September

Boots in the Park: If you can’t tell by the name of the event, this festival is for Southern California’s country music lovers. Popular artists Jason Aldean, Dustin Lynch, Ian Munsick, Hailey Whitters, Chase Matthew, Joe Peters and Luwiss Lux will all perform at Waterfront Park on Sept. 14. There will also be line dancing and more. Tickets are $255 while supplies last.

CRSSD: This two-day festival, held Sept. 28-29 at Waterfront Park, has more of an electronic feel. Some of the headliners include Disclosure, Gesaffelstein, BLOND:ISH, Boris Brejcha, Four Tet, Gorgon City, among others. As of the time of publication, only single-day tickets remained for $190.15, though you may be able to score weekend passes on resell platforms.

Mission Bayfest: On Sept. 27-29, Mariner’s Point Park will turn into reggae heaven with artists like Stick Figure, Pepper, Iration, Cypress Hill, Whiz Khalifa and Ric Scales slated to perform. This is the sister festival to San Diego Bayfest. Three-day tickets are selling for $210.08.

Ohana Festival: For this musical festival, you’ll need to plan for a little travel as it’s held at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, which is slightly north of San Diego County. It will be worth the drive with big name artists like Pearl Jam, Alanis Morisette, Garbage, Idles, The Breeders, Black Pumas, Jenny Lewis, LA LOM, Kim Gordon, and more. One-day tickets are $196 and three-day are $530, with festival taking place Sept. 27-29.

Same Same But Different: Also located slightly north of the region, this time in Riverside County, is an electronic-forward festival at Lake Perris State Park. Also known as SSBD, this festival site boasts great views of a crystal clear lake in a desert setting. Artists include Big Gigantic, Dirtwire, LSDream, Balkan Bump, and many more. This festival is scheduled for Sept. 26-30 with tickets starting at $244 for two-day admission and $325 for the entire weekend.
