Summer Walker Named One Of The 2023 ASCAP Women Behind The Music Honorees
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) announced on Wednesday (Nov. 8) that Summer Walker, LVRN Executive Vice President and General Manager Amber Grimes, and Atlantic Records Senior Director of A&R Sammye Scott are the 2023 ASCAP Women Behind The Music honorees.
Presented by the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul department, the annual event “recognizes inspiring women in the music community, honoring songwriters, artists, and executives including managers, attorneys, label executives and music publishers.”
Nicole George-Middleton, ASCAP Senior Vice President of Membership and ASCAP Foundation Executive Director, shared in a statement, “ASCAP Women Behind The Music is such a special event for us because we get to recognize incredibly talented women who have made an impact through their art, contributions and leadership while connecting in person with our community. We are proud that we can continue this effort to inspire women to pursue careers in music, whether they are creatives or executives.”
After developing and executing an array of campaigns for Migos, Lil Baby, and Paul McCartney at Spotify, Grimes reconstructed Capitol’s creative department as Senior Vice President of Global Creative before her ascend at LVRN where she oversees the daily operations for their stacked roster, which includes Walker, 6LACK, D.R.A.M., Alex Vaughn, and more.
Scott is a trailblazer with the intention to “create lasting entertainment experiences in the ever-evolving hip-hop community.” She’s signed countless talent and is currently backing the rising star, Kaliii.
Recently, Walker celebrated the fifth anniversary of her debut mixtape, Last Day Of Summer, and is one of the 2023 Soul Train Awards top nominees, tied with Usher and SZA.
Walker, Grimes and Scott join previous ASCAP Women Behind the Music honorees, which include Kandi Burruss, Kelly Rowland, Jazmine Sullivan, Victoria Monét, Sheila E., and Salt-N-Pepa. The 2023 ceremony will take place on Nov. 16 in Atlanta.
