Sunny Hostin says President Trump used Tuskegee Airman at State of the Union as a 'prop'
The day after President Trump’s State of the Union address, The View’s Sunny Hostin tore into the president for portraying himself as an ally of the African American community, which she says isn’t the case.
Trump’s inclusion of Charles McGee, one of the last surviving Tuskegee Airmen, struck Hostin as disingenuous, saying she was “offended” by it.
“I was offended by the fact that he was trying to use a Tuskegee Airman as a prop, as a political prop. I didn’t like it,” said Hostin.
“When you think about this administration and what it has allegedly done for the black community, you have to think that the federal judges he has appointed? They’ve been 90 percent white,” noted Hostin.
She added, “He has gutted the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice. He has gutted the EPA agency which has protected black communities from plagues like Flint, Michigan. So don’t tell me what you’ve done for the black community because you haven’t done anything for the black community.”
Viewers headed to Twitter with their reactions to Hostin’s comments, and some said they agreed with her:
Thank you @Sunny for your response to what POTUS has done for the Black community-Perfect pic.twitter.com/0eESpWsl8P

But others said Hostin was way off the mark:
Pres. @realDonaldTrump brought war hero Charles McGee to the #SOTU as not only his guest but also to show respect to McGee as the last remaining Tuskegee Airman, not as a political prop as @TheView @sunny is "offended" about https://t.co/uTHs9tSoVR

Wow. @sunny doesn’t give the Tuskegee airman credit for making his own decisions and said being “used” by Administration. Crazy!!!
