‘Superwomen’ Courteney Cox, Rachel Zoe and More Celebrate Sprwmn Label in L.A.
“I’m having this dinner because of all of you, you are my superwomen and I’m honored to see my clothes on all of you,” designer Ambre Dahan said to her dinner guests Wednesday night at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, clinking Champagne glasses with Courteney Cox, Amber Valletta, stylist Maryam Malakpour and others.
The former design director of Joe’s Jeans, Dahan launched Sprwmn eight years ago. Her stretch leather leggings with a French touch (she’s originally from Paris) quickly became part of the daily uniform among L.A.’s stylish set, including Rebecca Gayheart, Rachel Zoe and designer Jenni Kayne, who were also around the long table under the hotel’s garden colonnade.

“Courteney wore them during the reunion of ‘Friends,’ and Maryam has been my friend forever and uses them during styling,” said Dahan, who said she was humbled by the turnout for her first brand dinner.
“I said I know you have an event, but I have a shoot tomorrow and I need to pull some things,” said Malakpour, who works with The Rolling Stones and Brandi Carlisle among others.
During a break between courses, Dahan reflected on how the business has been “a ride.” She opened a Melrose Place store just before COVID-19 hit, and had to close it, and said wholesale has been challenging, too. But she’s resisted taking on investors, not wanting the same experience she had at Joe’s Jeans, which has gone through several hands and is now owned by Centric Brands and WHP Global.
To widen the seasonality of Sprwmn, Dahan has worked to expand her offering beyond leather to include cashmere knits, silk and corduroy separates, shirting, denim, loungewear, leather and faux fur outerwear with touches of leopard for fall. And she’s got a dedicated fan club.
“I was in the showroom today and it really is the perfect closet,” said author Melissa Magsaysay of the contemporary range.
“Everyone looks cute in these clothes,” said stylist Jessica Paster, who is busy working with Maria Bakalova on her press tour for “The Apprentice.” (She’s a dead ringer for Ivana Trump.)
Divorced for a decade, Dahan still works with her ex-husband, premium denim industry legend Joe Dahan, and even thanked him in her toast. “Joe and I work so well together creatively, and my boyfriend has a surf brand and has an office in my office and we all get along,” she said of the modern family. “Everyone says we should have a show.”
It’s not a bad idea.
