Surprise! Chicago Med Star Expecting Baby With Former Castmate: ‘I’m the Luckiest Man’

There’s happy news for Chicago Med star Luke Mitchell — he and his wife (and former Home and Away co-star) Rebecca Breeds are expecting a baby! The couple, who got married in 2013, shared the exciting announcement on social media.

Mitchell, who plays Dr. Mitch Ripley on Chicago Med, and Breeds will welcome their first child very soon. Breeds announced the pregnancy in a November 5 Instagram post. She captioned a photo of her arrival at the Adelaide Film Festival, where she sported a baby bump: “VERY excited to share baby Mitchell and @kangarooislandmovie coming sooooooooon! Thanks @adlfilmfest for having us and everyone who came to support us. ????.”
Mitchell commented on his Instagram Story, “I’m the luckiest man, husband & soon to be Dad (!!) in the UNIVERSE.”
Fans were understandably excited about the news, sharing their congratulations for the couple with comments like, “@lukemitchell17 you’re going to be the best dad ever!!!” and “YASSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! the mvp couple is expecting their baby!!!!!!!!!”
Other fans shared, “Omg!!! This is very exciting ?? congratulations ??” and “Sooo excited for u guys @lukemitchell17 ????????.”

Mitchell started dating his Home and Away co-star in 2009. They announced their engagement in May 2012 and were married in January 2013.
In a 2021 interview with People, Breeds said of Mitchell, “The day I [found out about Clarice], he was waiting to hear about something as well. And we just couldn’t function. I’m like, ‘I can’t think about anything. Let’s just go for a drive.’ We drove to Malibu and we were sitting at a café… After I got the call and ran back in the restaurant, obviously we ordered champagne straightaway. And then that night he found out he got his role in [the CW series] The Republic of Sarah as well. So it was one of the craziest days of my life.”
In a 2021 Instagram post, Breeds celebrated their eighth anniversary, writing, “8 years. You are the best thing that ever happened to me. Into the wild and beyond. ??” In a 2023 Instagram post, she shared, “Love is the best adventure. ?? #10years.”

Breeds is known for her role as Clarice Starling on the CBS drama Clarice and for playing Nicole Gordon on Pretty Little Liars and Aurora de Martel on both The Originals and Legacies.
In a September 2023 interview with Now to Love, Breeds spoke about their marriage, noting, “Even when we were living overseas and working on different things, we always said, ‘Are you having fun? Because if not, we can move home and open a cafe and we’ll have a great time.’”
