‘Survivor 47’ contestant gets caught stealing rice: ‘Shoplifting vibes!’
During the second episode of “Survivor 47,” history was made when host Jeff Probst put on his detective cap and stopped a crime from being committed in plain sight. The crime? Stealing rice. The suspect? Rachel LaMont.
The multi-part reward/immunity challenge included a bag full of rice that each tribe had to maneuver through a tiny hole in the ocean and then destroy in order to retrieve a hidden ball. Later on, as the contestants were trying to solve their snake-shaped ball maze, the cameras caught Rachel of the yellow Gata tribe sneakily putting some of the tossed-aside rice into her pockets. That’s a no-no!

Soon after the challenge ended, Jeff called her out publicly. “All right, Gata, before I send you out, I have a question for Rachel,” he stated.
“Yes?” she wondered aloud.
Jeff asked, “Did I see you putting some rice in your pocket?”
Rachel giggled and responded, “You didn’t see anything, Jeff.”
“Unbelievable. Empty your pockets,” the host instructed.
The other castaways then watched in shock and awe as Rachel let loose several handfuls of rice from her shorts. That’s when one person called her a “savage,” and Rome Cooney openly declared, “Shoplifting vibes!”

Amid laughter, a clearly hungry Rachel tried to explain her mindset by saying, “I’m trying to play smart, that’s all. Hey, when I was standing at that bag of rice, I thought, ‘Maybe I could take some home with us.'” For clarity’s sake, this was Day 5 on the island and the castaways had very little to eat up until that moment.
Jeff replied, “I respect the try … That was funny. That’s a first, Rachel.”
The Gata tribe came in first place in the combined reward/immunity challenge, so they got to take home a huge fishing kit as well as the idol. The rest of the episode played out as normal, with the losing Tuku tribe heading to tribal council and voting out one of their members. Read our minute-by-minute recap to see how it all played out on Wednesday, September 25.
