In this week’s “Survivor 47” deleted scene, host Jeff Probst tasks the remaining castaways with dividing themselves into two teams for the impending challenge by using the classic “schoolyard pick” method. The winners of part one would earn a merge feast and would get to compete in part two, where one person would win the immunity necklace. The last contestant to be chosen was Andy Rueda, who felt like a “wounded snake” after the experience. Watch the clip by visiting the official CBS website.

“I think we need to do something different here,” Jeff began. “We’ve never done a schoolyard pick in the new era. So we’re gonna do a random draw for captains.” Teeny Chirichillo and Tiyana Hallums were chosen as the captains, with Teeny winning the rock-paper-scissors and getting to pick first. Whoever they chose would then get to pick the next person, and so on.

In a private confessional, Sam Phalen narrated, “I love a good schoolyard pick. I think it means, hey, these groups are gonna be balanced, these groups are gonna be a lot of fun. And you really are gonna have to push yourself to get that meal.”

Teeny’s group, in order of choosing, consisted of Sam, Kyle Ostwald, Rachel LaMont, Sierra Wright, and Sue Smey.

Tiyana’s group, in order of being picked, was Gabe Ortis, Solomon “Sol” Yi, Caroline Vidmar, Rome Cooney, and Andy.

The 13th player, Genevieve Mushaluk, earned an advantage earlier in the day and got to skip the first part of the challenge.

“As I was standing there,” Andy told the audience, “and people kept getting picked who weren’t me, it just totally took me back to how I always used to feel at school. No one wanted me on their team. No one would pick me. But there are benefits to this. It makes my threat level even lower, so people look at me as a wounded bird that they want to nurse back to health. I think that’s half true. I think I’m a wounded snake. They’re gonna nurse me back to health and I’m gonna slither through and I’m gonna start being venomous again.”

Jeff asked Andy to share his feelings in front of the group, and he responded, “It’s not the easiest thing in the world, but standing here as a 31-year-old man, I think that my mentality has definitely improved. And it’s definitely improved in these 12 days out here in terms of just self-belief. I’ve learned to love myself.”

Viewers saw the rest of the challenge play out during the October 23 episode (read our minute-by-minute recap). Teeny’s group won part one of the challenge, which meant they got to enjoy the merge feast and got to compete in part two. That’s where Kyle outbalanced the others from his group and won the immunity necklace, thereby becoming the first official member of the merged tribe.
