‘Survivor 47’ preview: Rome Cooney is an E-sports commentator who wants to learn from Jeff, aka ‘the GOAT’ [WATCH]

“Survivor 47” fans, it’s time to meet Rome Cooney, a 30-year-old E-sports commentator from Phoenix, Arizona. “What I do in E-sports is what Jeff does on ‘Survivor,'” he declares in CBS’s preview video while comparing himself to longtime host Jeff Probst. “Jeff does all this shot-calling and that’s exactly what I do in the video games.” Watch Rome’s intro above at the 4:07 mark.

The sports fan notes, “I’ve been traveling all around the world. I’ve been all the way to Saudi Arabia, casting $2 million Fortnite tournaments. When I’m watching ‘Survivor,’ the second a challenge starts I’ll mute it and then I’ll start commentating over the challenge. And then I’ll rewind it and listen to how Jeff does it and see where I can improve. Because, I mean, Jeff is the GOAT [Greatest of All Time], so you gotta learn from the best.”

Rome addresses pre-conceived notions by saying, “I feel like people’s first impressions of me are gonna be, ‘Man, this guy is loud. I don’t know if this guy’s got a lot going on upstairs.’ But guess what? I like to think that I’m smart. I took an IQ test. It was like 135. I don’t know how accurate it is, but hey, I’ll take it.”

Finally, he details, “I got a lot of things up my sleeve that a lot of these players aren’t going to be able to see just from looking at me, and so I’m going to be a very, very scary player. I truly believe I’m by far one of the biggest threats out here to win this game.”
