‘Survivor 47’ villain Rome threatens Sol … or was it an ultimatum? [POLL]
“Survivor 47” has a brand new villain, and his name is Jerome “Rome” Cooney.
The 30-year-old E-sports commentator from Phoenix, Arizona was already getting a lot of screen time because of his two advantages (a hidden immunity idol which he used last week, and a steal-a-vote which he used this week), but it was his feud with Solomon “Sol” Yi that really made Rome stand out. Their bickering led to one of the most notable exchanges of the season. So did Rome threaten the 43-year-old medical device salesman from Norwalk, Connecticut, or did he merely give him an ultimatum? Vote in our poll below.

Rome’s initial plan was to send home Sol, so he started to “babysit” him so that he wouldn’t be able to find the potentially re-hidden idol. He followed Sol absolutely everywhere — around the camp, through the jungle, to the water well, etc. “With Rome, it’s either his way or ‘I’m gonna pout like a five-year-old’ way,” an exasperated Sol told the camera. “He’s gonna throw the biggest tantrum. I ain’t trying to deal with that all day long, cause it’s exhausting and it’s messing my game up.”
Sol had no personal issues at all with his fellow tribe mates Genevieve Mushaluk, Kishan Patel and Teeny Chirichillo, but it was still a numbers game and he was definitely on the bottom. Things got worse at the immunity challenge when Rome failed to get a single piece of the puzzle attached. “A rare, rare visual: a puzzle that ended the same way it started, as if it never happened,” host Jeff Probst announced after the challenge as Gata and Tuku celebrated their victories.

Heading back to the Lavo camp, Rome’s steal-a-vote advantage was the talk of the town, but how should he use it? At first, Rome wanted to simply take away Sol’s vote and then use it vote for him. But then, after a conversation with the manipulative Kishan, Rome decided to tell Sol that ousting Genevieve was the plan, and that to gain his trust, Sol should hand over his shot in the dark. “I could just straight up threaten him. I’d have no problem doing that,” Rome told Kishan. “It might be a little villainous. I could strong-arm Sol tonight and little does he know that he’s gonna be gone regardless.”
But the way in which Rome informed Sol about the “plan” completely rubbed him the wrong way. Sol accused him of “threatening” him, while Rome countered that it was merely an “ultimatum.” Rome’s exact words: “I’m letting you know, if you don’t give me your shot in the dark, I’m using the steal-a-vote on you tonight, and then you can’t play your shot in the dark anyway. I’m letting you know that right now. And you’ll be going home.”
Sol retorted that this couldn’t possibly be “real life.” In a private confessional, Sol stated, “I was like, bro, really? You can’t be threatening people. The villain on this season is Rome.” He then added, “It’s a slap in the face, because nobody, especially of Rome’s size, has ever talked to me the way he has. And I don’t plan on working with him ever in this game.”
After Genevieve was made aware of the fact that Kishan had thrown out her name as the decoy vote, she decided to take matters into her own hands. She was able to do the unthinkable and make Rome and Sol work together, and Rome even publicly apologized to the man he had attacked moments earlier. At tribal council, Rome used his steal-a-vote to take away Kishan’s power. Since Teeny also lost her vote on the journey, that meant only four votes were cast, and all of them went toward a shocked and startled Kishan, sending him home.
