Sutton Foster to star in Sweet Charity revival

Sutton Foster can’t stay away from the stage for too long.

The star of TV Land’s Younger — who will also appear on the upcoming revival of Gilmore Girls — will head back to the New York stage once more in an Off Broadway revival of the beloved 1966 musical, Sweet Charity.

Presented by the New Group and directed by Leigh Silverman, Sweet Charity will star Foster in the title role as Charity Hope Valentine, perhaps theater’s most famous dancer with a heart of gold. Joshua Bergasse, recently of the well-received revival of On The Town, will choreograph the production this November.

Written by Cy Coleman, Dorothy Fields, and Neil Simon, Sweet Charity is memorable for tunes like “Big Spender” and “If My Friends Could See Me Now” as well as the notable names behind its original Broadway run: Gwen Verdon and Bob Fosse.

The New Group’s 2016-17 season will also include Erica Schmidt’s All the Fine Boys, Wallace Shawn’s Evening at the Talk House, and Hamish Linklater’s The Whirligig (starring Zosia Mamet and Maura Tierney).

Foster is a two-time Tony Award winner (for Anything Goes and Thoroughly Modern Millie) and six-time nominee; she last tread the Broadway boards in 2014’s Violet and headlined New York City Center’s Encores! production of The Wild Party last summer.
