Suzanne Somers, 72, told she's too old to post bathtub photo: 'Totally inappropriate'
Suzanne Somers is living her best life — and that includes enjoying the So. Cal. super bloom in the buff in her backyard bathtub.
The Three’s Company star turned QVC dynamo shared a photo Thursday of a soak session at her Palm Springs estate. “Nice way to enjoy the daisies blooming on the mountain. Happy Superbloom!!” the star captioned the photo, which showed her — seemingly sans clothing, but covered — while holding a mug. And while she seemed quite happy in that clawfoot tub in her oasis among the hills, an online troll tried to dampen her spirits by saying she’s too old for that type of photo.
The female commenter wrote, “Don’t care to see a 76 year old in a tub,” calling it “totally inappropriate.”
Somers’s fans had her back. Off the bat, many corrected that “she’s 72,” not that it matters. “She’s an icon and living her best life!” one person shot back at the hater. Another wrote, “SERIOUSLY????? Are you out of your mind!!!!!” Even fellow sex symbol Pamela Anderson chimed in, despite her personal turmoil at the moment, writing that Somers is living “the good life.”
One commenter pointed out that seeing Somers in her outdoor tub isn’t unusual. “If this offends ... don’t follow her,” she wrote, noting, “A couple weeks ago” Somers did an Instagram Live with her husband, producer Alan Hamel, together “in her big bathtub. Lol. “She’s a beautiful lady at any age. Don’t be bitter.”
Somers once told People magazine that the tub was a birthday present from Hamel and it gets used on magical desert evenings. “He’s such a romantic,” she said. “We might go to my outdoor bathtub, share a tequila on ice and watch the moon while I soak in the bath with Epsom salts, surrounded by nature and the waterfall.”
Soaks together are just one way they stay close after 40-plus years of marriage. They also go on dates “at least three times a week” and have sex every day — “sometimes more,” she has said.
There may be more than one reason Somers is showing off her cool outdoor tub. The Palm Springs compound is on the market for $9.5 million — and has been for sale for some time. The estate features five villas with a total of seven bedrooms and 10 bathrooms on 70 acres of multilevel hillside property. It comes with all the bells and whistles — with other standout features like a 50-seat outdoor amphitheater, spa, natural waterfall and a cable car that goes up the mountain.
The star has said the property is just too big for them at this point (they bought it in 1977), but they aren’t leaving the area. They purchased a smaller home, in the $2 million range, just across town.
