Swifties turned the Eras Tour cancelation in Vienna into a beautiful celebration of friendship after terror threats

Fans of US mega-star Taylor Swift, so-called "Swifties", gather in the center in Vienna, Austria, after her three scheduled concerts were cancelled following the arrest of an Islamic State sympathiser in connection with an attack plot. The Vienna leg of a tour by American mega-star Taylor Swift has been cancelled after Austria arrested an Islamic State sympathiser in connection with an attack plot, the organisers said on August 7, 2024. Authorities had earlier confirmed the arrest of a 19-year-old sympathiser of the armed group for allegedly planning an attack in the Vienna region, warning he had a "focus" on Swift's three upcoming shows. About 65,000 spectators were expected at each show scheduled for August 8, 9 and 10. There may no longer be any Taylor Swift concerts this weekend in Vienna, but the spirit and vibes of the global superstar have remained high.

Authorities canceled all three of Swift's planned Eras Tour shows in the Austrian capital city due to an uncovered terror plot that saw two teenage boys planning to use vehicles, explosives and various knives and machetes to attack concert-goers.

Despite the disappointment of not having a show to attend, Swifties took advantage of being in Vienna and created a new safe haven for fans. People filled the streets singing Swift's songs, trading friendship bracelets and showing off the outfits they had planned for so long.

The city got in on the celebration, offering free food, trinkets and more to the fans who remained. In the face of what could have been unspeakable horror, something beautiful emerged.

It seems as though Swift's shows scheduled for London later this month are still on, but the situation is being monitored closely.
