Switchfoot to headline Bro-Am Fest at Moonlight Beach this weekend
ENCINITAS, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — An American rock band with San Diego roots will be performing at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas this weekend.
Switchfoot will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their Bro-Am Beach Fest and benefit party with a free show. The group started the event back in 2005 as a way to give back to the local community after finding stardom.
Chad Butler, Swichfoot’s drummer, reflected back on what inspired the band to launch the event while speaking with FOX 5/KUSI Thursday morning.

“You know, I think when we started we were young enough and dumb enough to think we could put on a free music festival on the beach here at Moonlight Beach Encinitas,” he joked. “The city has embraced it, the community has embraced it. People keep coming because it’s all for a good cause. We want to help local kids with basic challenges that maybe you and I would never face.”
Though entry to the festival is free, all other proceeds from the event support local youth initiatives like Rady Children’s, the Save the Music Foundation, Monarch School, A Step Beyond, Feeding San Diego, among others.
“We just want to give back to the community and support these local organizations that are doing great work and Bro-Am does that,” Butler continued.
The event takes place Saturday, June 15 at Moonlight Beach, which is located 400 B St. in Encinitas. Tickets can be reserved online with donations encouarged.
A surf contest will be held from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., while live music will be performed from noon until 5p.m. Other musical artists include Shane Hall, Little Image, Jordy Searcy, Shua, and more.
