SZA Announces Plans For Performance Hiatus: “Thank U God”

SZA has revealed plans to take a break from performing on stage after a busy year.

The R&B singer took to social media to update fans on a planned hiatus, not confirming a specific time frame for her upcoming absence.

“Yesterday was my last show for a while,” explained the 34-year-old in a post on X Monday (Aug 5). “Finally bout to get my life together thank u God.”

The message of relief comes after the chart-topping singer performed on Sunday at Montreal’s Osheaga Fest. Only a day before, she headlined Chicago’s Lollapalooza. According to Rolling Stone, the Midwestern showcase included a preview of new track, “Cry Baby.”

“This song is ‘Cry Baby.’ It’s not out, but it will be,” she announced. The Top Dawg Entertainment representative also sang “Snooze,” “Kill Bill,” “Love Galore,” “The Weekend,” and “Kiss Me More.”

SZA, winner of the R&B Song of the Year, R&B Album of the Year, and R&B Artist of the Year awards, poses in the press room at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards held at the Dolby Theatre on April 1, 2024 in Los Angeles, California.

SZA also performed at Glastonbury Festival 2024 in June. The record-breaking artist also kept busy with a 63-date global tour between February 2023 and May 2024. Despite the announcement, SZA’s website still lists two upcoming shows this fall. As of Tuesday morning, she is confirmed at the Al Dana Amphitheatre, Bahrain on Nov. 20, and at Wireless Festival Middle East 2024 on Nov. 23.

Fans of the New Jersey-bred artist may welcome her break from the stage, as it gives her more time to spend in the studio. SZA’s last single “Saturn” was released earlier this year. However, a full mixtape, EP, or album from the Grammy-winning musician hasn’t dropped since 2022’s SOS.

In March, the “Doves In The Wind” updated listeners on the progress made on a deluxe version of the chart-topping album, as well as a new project in the works.

“Y’all leaked three songs from the deluxe. At this point, y’all can keep the throwaways and leaks,” wrote the 34-year-old in a now-deleted post on X. “I’ll be starting ‘Lana’ from scratch. Do not ask me about it again… I’ll round up the leaks y’all already got and u can have those. Seems like a fair deal. ENJOY.”
