T-Pain Says “Buy U A Drank” Makes Him Little Money Due To Paying Writers
T-Pain had a major effect on early 2000’s Hip-Hop, as he created some of the most culturally shifting music that is still celebrated today.
As major as songs like “I’m N Luv (Wit A Stripper )” and “Buy U A Drank” featuring Yung Joc and “Bartender” were — the Tallahassee native recently revealed that he doesn’t profit too much from some of those songs.
On Wednesday (Sept. 13), Pain took to his Nappy Boy Gaming live stream to speak on his “Buy U A Drank” publishing profit. He revealed that he doesn’t receive much money from the smash hit, as writers came in with their hands out from songs he cited.
“Y’all looked up the publishing on ‘Buy U A Drank?’” he asked a cohost in a clip from the live stream. “Bruh. Like, publishing wise, I probably make no money. So, all those things that I said in ‘Buy U A Drank’ that was from other songs — when ‘Buy U A Drank’ blew up, all them other people from all them other songs said they was owed s**t from my song because I said their name. I’m like, ‘What the f**k!’”
He then mentioned that the “homaging” 2007 tune included lines from Lil Scrappy’s “Money In The Bank,” Lil Jon and E-40’s “Snap Yo Fingers,” and “Walk It Out” by DJ Unk.

The song also included the lines: “you don’t know me” referring to T.I.’s song “U Don’t Know Me”; “we in the bed like ‘Ooh,'” which is a remixed line from Lil Boosie’s “Zoom”; “back to the crib, show you how I live,” which refers to 50 Cent’s “Just a Lil Bit”; and “on that Patrón, you should get like me,” citing Yung Joc’s “It’s Goin’ Down.”
The 7x Platinum song debuted No. 1 on both Billboard Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart, becoming T-Pain’s first and Yung Joc’s second No. 1 single.
The track did extremely well, earning the 38-year-old his highest charting single, which surpassed his debut “I’m Sprung.”
