T.I., Tiny Harris Score $71 Million Win In OMG Girlz Lawsuit
T.I. and Tiny Harris have scored a significant win in their lawsuit involving the OMG Girlz. According to the Daily Journal, the couple’s lawsuit against MGA Entertainment has finally come to an end, as a jury found the company guilty of violating the IP rights of the OMG Girlz with the company’s 2019 L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. dolls in a unanimous ruling.
The court ruling found the company copied the likeness of the now-defunct teen pop group presenting seven dolls from their line. Interestingly enough, the company didn’t just copy the group for all of their dolls. The outlet reports that MGA Entertainment also copied the likeness of artists such as Lady Gaga and Beyoncé.
As the three-week trial concludes, the company will have to pay the couple $17.8 million for real damages and $53.6 million in punitive damages. TIP’s lawyer, John Keville, asserted that the jury should have issued more penalties to MGA to “send them a message” and thanked the jury for “standing up to MGA’s bullying and misrepresentations.”
Breaunna Womack, a member of the pop group, responded to the trial’s conclusion on Instagram. She posted a picture of herself alongside Tiny, T.I., and the OMG Girlz, with a caption giving thanks to God, saying, “First and foremost, I want to give all praise to God. Thank you, God! Thank you to the team! Thank you so much [Tiny and T.I.], our lawyers and the jury for seeing us! and all of our fam & Team OMG for all the support and prayers. This is a win for us and all artists/ creatives out there. Dont ever be afraid to use your voice and stand up for what you believe in. So grateful. amazingly blessed.”
The now-defunct teen version of the pop group featured Tiny’s daughter, Zonnique Pullins, Lil Wayne’s daughter, Reginae Carter, Bahja Rodriguez, and Womack. Tiny and Tip initially formed the group in 2009. They have gone through several changes since its inception, with a new version of the OMG Girlz featuring the trio of Pullins, Womack, and Rodriguez releasing new music. They’re also currently on tour.
