Taye Diggs Charms Meagan Good — and Her On-Screen Kids — in 'Terry McMillan Presents: Forever' Trailer (Exclusive)
'Terry McMillan Presents: Forever' premieres August 24 on Lifetime
A new love story is coming to Lifetime!
In Terry McMillan Presents: Forever, Taye Diggs and Meagan Good come together to tell the story of two people — Johnnie and Carlie — who unexpectedly fall in love. The film follows as "Johnnie (Diggs) returns home after a tour of military service, where he’s unexpectedly met with divorce papers. With his life at a crossroads, the last thing he expected was to fall for the local policewoman Carlie (Good), who pulled him over for speeding," according to an official synopsis.
"Determined to win her heart, his first hurdle is winning over her three daughters," the description continues. "In order to be the man Carlie needs him to be, Johnnie must let go of old fears and regret he’s held onto in order to find love and learn the true meaning of family."
In PEOPLE's exclusive sneak peek, Johnnie asks Carlie, a cop who pulled him over for having an expired license but let him go with a warning, “Would you ever consider going to dinner with me?”
“Have you ever dated someone with kids before?” she asks and he replies, “No."
He later shows up at her house with a bouquet of flowers, and her daughters joke that their mom’s curfew is “11:30, no later.”
The two begin seeing each other, and when Johnnie questions why Carlie never remarried, she responds with, “Have you ever met my girls?”
The trailer then cuts to a more intense scene, with one of Carlie’s daughters accusing her of “ruining my life!”
“This is an easy day with them,” she later tells Johnnie while the two lay in bed together and lean in for a kiss.
In a whirlwind of emotion, the couple finds themselves forming a family together — something Johnnie never had. Carlie tells her daughters, “It’s the man who’s here every day taking care of you, that’s the guy you call dad."
“I’ve never been in love, not like this,” she confesses to Johnnie and he responds that he has “never been more scared.”
The conclusion of the trailer pulls at the heartstrings, when Johnnie declares, “I’m gonna be here for you, all of y’all, forever.”
A flash of laughter, hugs and a wedding appear on the screen before it comes to a close with Carlie saying, “I’m counting on that.”
