Taylor Swift gave fans a thrill when she performed an unexpected song with a special guest during her “Eras Tour” show in New Orleans Oct. 26.

Towards the end of the concert, during the part of the set that fans have dubbed “surprise song o’clock,” Swift started singing a song that wasn’t from her extensive, 11-album discography, but a cover.

Throughout Swift’s touring career, the singer traditionally performs a few songs at each concert that aren’t part of the standard setlist. During the “Eras Tour,” which kicked off in Arizona in March 2023 and will wrap up in December in Canada, those surprise songs have typically been fan-favorite Swift songs and often mashups.

But Saturday night, Swift kicked off the surprise song set by singing a few bars of one of the official songs of the summer: Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso.”

“I’m gonna sing a song that’s not mine, but it’s somebody that I really love, so I want to see how loudly you can sing this song. It’s been stuck in my head,” Swift said on stage, before singing the chorus of “Espresso,” accompanied by an acoustic guitar. Carpenter is currently touring her album “Short n’ Sweet” and previously opened for the “Eras Tour.”

The fun didn't stop there. At the mic, Swift called Carpenter on speakerphone, according to videos from the concert posted by fans.

After a quick conversation, Carpenter joined Swift onstage to resume the performance of “Espresso.“ While Carpenter sang the melody, Swift harmonized in the background and played the guitar. Before the song’s second verse, Swift asked, “I was wondering, I wanna do the thing, can I do it?”

Carpenter agreed as Swift started singing, “I’m working late ‘cause I’m a singer.” And in true Swift fashion, that verse segued into a mashup, combining “Espresso” with “Is It Over Now?” a song from “1989 (Taylor’s Version).”

From there, Swift and Carpenter sang a duet version of another song, this time from “Short n’ Sweet,” “Please Please Please.”

The mashup madness ended fittingly with the lyrics, “Let’s fast forward to 300 takeout coffees later” and “That’s that me espresso” spliced together.

Online, fans loved the mashup.

“IVE LITERALLY NEVER BEEN MORE JEALOUS IN MY LIFE!!!” one person commented on TikTok.
