Taylor Swift Grammy submissions: 9 chances for nominations, from ‘Tortured Poets Department’ to ‘The Eras Tour’
Taylor Swift is a historic artist at the Grammys with more Album of the Year victories than any other artist (four). She has prevailed for “Fearless,” “1989,” “Folklore,” and just this past year “Midnights.” While accepting one of her awards for “Midnights,” the prolific singer-songwriter announced her next album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” which dropped in April and has become one of the biggest commercial hits of her career, spending 15 nonconsecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200 albums chart. But will she rack up more top Grammy wins so soon after her record-breaking “Midnights” triumph? She’s certainly going to try. Here are her nine submissions on the Grammy ballot:

Another Album of the Year nomination for Swift would be her seventh, breaking her tie with Barbra Streisand as the most nominated woman in the category. She’s also aiming for her sixth Record of the Year bid with “Fortnight,” which would certainly be impressive, but won’t be a record; Beyonce has eight noms in that category and could score a ninth this year for “Texas Hold ‘Em.” Surprisingly, neither woman has actually won that award.
Swift also holds the record among songwriters: she has the most Song of the Year nominations ever (seven), though she has yet to win that award too. She’s trying for her eighth nomination there also with “Fortnight,” which she co-wrote with Post Malone and frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff. That song could also earn her bids for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video; she recently won Video of the Year at the VMAs for “Fortnight,” though that’s a fan-voted award, not a peer group award, so their results don’t reliably match up.
A possible disadvantage for Swift across all categories is that “Tortured Poets” wasn’t as enthusiastically received by critics as her most recent albums. It scored 76 on MetaCritic — still strong, make no mistake, but that’s lower than the scores for her last four albums “Lover,” “Folklore,” “Evermore,” and “Midnights.” Albums have won top Grammys with less acclaim than that, but combined with how recently Swift broke the all-time record in Album of the Year, voters might feel it’s time to take a break from her. So pay attention to whether Swift underperforms in the nominations, especially if she misses anywhere in the general field. That might give us an indication of whether she’s an unstoppable force again or stuck on the sidelines this time around.
