Taylor Swift is speaking out about the friendship bracelet tradition that has become an integral part of her international Eras Tour.

Since the music superstar's record-breaking tour kicked off in 2023, fans have started a trend of making friendship bracelets to trade with other Swifties at the shows. It started as a cute idea, and has since blossomed into a major fixture from Swift's Eras tour era.

During her concert in New Orleans, La., on Friday, Oct. 25, Swift, 34, addressed the crowd to talk about the friendship bracelet phenomenon, saying she feels "so proud" of the joy her fans have created throughout the tour.

"I just showed up one day and you guys were trading friendship bracelets," she said during the Red section of the show on Friday night. "And now there's a giant friendship bracelet outside the stadium, which is so nice of them to do for us."

Ahead of her arrival at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, the venue honored Swift with a mega-sized friendship bracelet that read "Taylor Swift The Eras Tour" on the outside of the building.

Swift continued, "But it's even nicer of you guys to create things that went so far beyond what I ever expected for this tour."

The tradition started because of a song on Swift's 10th album Midnights, which came out just before she announced the Eras Tour.

Track #5, "You're On Your Own, Kid," includes the lyrics, "So make the friendship bracelets. Take the moment and taste it," which her fans would end up taking very literally once the Eras Tour began.

Pretty soon, Swifties were loading up their wrists with tens of beaded bracelets spelling out song titles and lyrics, in the hopes of trading with other fans at the concerts.

And the rest was history!
