Taylor Swift (‘Tortured Poets’) spends 8th week atop Billboard 200, while Charli XCX and Bon Jovi achieve milestones
In a familiar turn of events, Taylor Swift has the number-one album on the Billboard 200 for the tracking week that ended June 13. “The Tortured Poets Department” is on top for the eighth week in a row. It hasn’t left the top spot since the album was released on April 19. This week it achieved 128,000 equivalent album units based on its combined record sales, individual track sales and online streams. That’s down just 14% from last week. Billie Eilish had an even smaller week-to-week drop, slipping only nine-percent to take second place with her third studio album “Hit Me Hard and Soft.” It racked up 106,000 units. Next up with 82,000 units was Charli XCX‘s “Brat.” The album has achieved some of the best reviews of the year, and now it has also posted personal-best numbers for the English singer-songwriter. This was her highest ever position on the Billboard 200, as well as her best week for total units, her best week for sales, and her best week for streams.

Morgan Wallen‘s “One Thing at a Time” held on to number-four with 72,000 units, followed by Bon Jovi‘s “Forever” at number-five with 52,000 units. The veteran rock band has now had a new top-10 album in each of the last five decades, from the 1980s to the 2020s. They’re the fifth band to accomplish that feat, following AC/DC, Def Leppard, Metallica and U2. And yes, I feel old too realizing that the 1980s were that many decades ago.
In our weekly Billboard 200 predictions contest, most game players got the top three questions correct, picking “Tortured Poets” for number-one with between 100,000 and 149,999 album units, and predicting “Hit Me Hard and Soft” for number-two. The rest of the top five were more elusive. Nobody anticipated that “Brat” would debut as high as number-three, only five foresaw “One Thing at a Time” at number-three, and four people anticipated “Forever” in fifth place.
