Ted Danson is loving the podcaster life.

The Cheers star, 76, recently teamed up with his old friend and costar Woody Harrelson for their podcast Where Everybody Knows Your Name with Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson (Sometimes). Since the show’s premiere in June 2024, the pair has welcomed guests like Kristen Bell, Martin Short, Eric Andre and most recently, their fellow Cheers alum George Wendt.

For Danson, he says he feels “guilty” for how much he enjoys taping the show.

“It's been the best joining up with [Harrelson] again,” he tells PEOPLE exclusively while discussing his upcoming hosting gig at Oceana’s 17th annual SeaChange Summer party. “It's the reason why we decided to do it. It was more of a, ‘Well, why not?’ Let's do this.' Somebody asked and we went, ‘Yeah, that'll be fun.’”

With nearly a dozen episodes under their belts, Danson says it’s been “a privilege” to learn more about their impressive roster of guests.

“I've discovered what a privilege it is to sit opposite somebody and have an hour and a half to talk in a purposeful, as deep as you want, kind of conversation and discover who that person is... And kind of celebrate that person is such a privilege,” he says.

And of his old friend, Danson says, “he's a force bigger than life. He's so much fun to be around, and reacquaint ourselves with what we've been doing.”

Earlier this year when the podcast was officially announced, Harrleson, 63, shared what he saw as “the biggest win” from their new venture.

“Sure we’ll talk with interesting guests, and sure we’ll share some laughs along the way, but the biggest win will be rekindling our romance, I mean friendship, after all this time,” he joked.

While welcoming their most recent “interesting guest,” Harrelson, Danson and Wendt remembered a day when the trio played “hooky” from set and took a trip on castmate’s John Ratzenburger new boat to Catalina Island.

While on the adventure, Harrleson offered Danson some hallucinogenics.

"Woody turns to me and goes, 'Have you ever had mushrooms?' I go, 'No. No, I haven't.' And he said, 'Well, this will be a good time. We have nothing to do. We'll be on a boat,'" Danson recalled. "We hadn't had breakfast, so I was fairly hungry and ate, I think, an extraordinary amount of mushrooms."

Danson then recalled what happened next which included “panicking” and “trouble breathing” — he later called the trip "the worst four hours of my life."

In addition to adding “podcast host” to his résumé, Danson has also continued his longtime work with the non profit Oceana — a leading international ocean advocacy organization where the actor now serves as a board member.

On Aug. 17, Danson will host Oceana’s 17th annual SeaChange Summer party which has raised nearly $20 million over the years to support the organization's work.
