‘Ted Lasso’ actor Brendan Hunt delivers epic speech about ‘winning vibe’ in KC
Actor Brendan Hunt may not be a Kansas City native but he won the hearts of fans in the city on Sunday.
Hunt and his friend Jason Sudeikis, the Shawnee Mission West graduate, were co-creators and co-stars on the hugely popular show “Ted Lasso” on Apple TV. Sudeikis is one of KC’s favorite sons because of his work with the annual Big Slick fundraiser for Children’s Mercy and because of his unabashed support for the sports teams here.
On Sunday, Hunt showed his support of KC sports, too. He was at Kauffman Stadium and he threw out the first pitch before the Royals’ 6-2 win over the Guardians.
After the game, Hunt joined the “Men In Blazers” show at the Madrid Theater as they previewed Monday night’s Copa America game between the U.S. men’s national team and Uruguay at Arrowhead Stadium.
Emmy Award winning actor Eric Stonestreet was also on hand, but Hunt stole the show and had the crowd chanting “U-S-A.” Hunt noted the U.S. squad could find inspiration from each of Kansas City’s sports teams, which all are coming off a victory.
The epic speech came when Hunt was asked what he would tell Team USA ahead of Monday’s match.
“And here’s the thing beyond all that,” Hunt said after recapping the U.S. loss to Panama. “We are in Kansas City and I know for a fact that there’s a winning vibe going on here, because I know the Royals won their last game and I know Sporting won their last game. I know the Current won their last game and I hear tell the Kansas City Chiefs won their last game as well. So maybe that winning vibe this city provides will keep on going!”
He added: “It’s gonna be one hell of a game tomorrow, and we just might shock the world. And that’ll be because of Kansas City!”
You can watch the entire speech here, but there is quite a bit of cursing. Here is a clip of that speech and it too has some swearing.

Later in the show, Hunt quipped: “We’ve been drinking.”
