'Teen Mom' star quits after only one night on 'Naked and Afraid'

Teen Mom OG star Maci Bookout got Naked and Afraid in the jungles of Chacocente, Nicaragua, but though she began the episode confidently, she quickly found the 14-day challenge unbearable.

“When I watch this show the one thing that drives me crazy is people quit way too early,” Bookout said when the competition got underway. “Like, they don’t even give themselves a chance. The first sign of distress, they tap out, like, they’re done.” With a bit of bravado she added, “It’s going to suck for sure, but I’m not going to quit.”

Bookout made it just a short distance into the jungle before realizing the ground was covered with thorns and cactus needles. She struggled while hiking through the terrain in her bare feet and ultimately had to be carried by her partner, Justin.

She started a campfire, and the pair put together a rudimentary platform to sleep on, but Bookout had a hard time getting comfortable.

The next morning her mood had soured. “Everything hurts — physically, mentally. … Sitting on your couch watching this show is not the same.”

Bookout decided to cut her losses and leave the challenge. “Coming into this, I 100% was confident in myself, but it’s easy as a fan to say that because you don’t feel like you’re standing in a f***ing fire because your feet hurt so bad,” she said.

As the show aired, Bookout tweeted, “Naked and Afraid was the most amazing (and painful) experience.. even though I didn’t complete the challenge. I am proud of myself for trying something completely terrifying and out of my comfort zone.”

Naked and Afraid airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on Discovery Channel.
