Tell Me Lies’ Grace Van Patten to Play Amanda Knox in Hulu Miniseries, Replacing Margaret Qualley
For the second time, Hulu has found its Amanda Knox.
Tell Me Lies actress Grace Van Patten will now play Knox in the streamer’s limited series, which chronicles Knox’s wrongful conviction for the murder of her roommate. Margaret Qualley (Maid) was previously cast in the project, but exited in April due to reported scheduling conflicts.

The as-yet-untitled miniseries, which counts Knox herself among its executive producers, is “based on the true story of how Knox was wrongfully convicted for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher, and her 16-year odyssey to set herself truly free,” per the official logline. Knox was convicted in 2009 for the murder of Kercher, with whom Knox studied abroad in Italy. Knox spent nearly four years in an Italian prison before being acquitted in 2015.
The series was created by K.J. Steinberg (This Is Us, Mistresses), who will executive-produce alongside Warren Littlefield (The Handmaid’s Tale), Knox, Monica Lewinsky, Chris Robinson and others.
Van Patten is certainly familiar to regular Hulu viewers: In addition to the drama series Tell Me Lies (which is awaiting a Season 2 premiere date), she also appeared in Season 1 of the streamer’s Nine Perfect Strangers, starring Nicole Kidman. Other TV credits include Maniac, Boardwalk Empire and The Sopranos.
