Teyana Taylor Breaks Silence, Addresses Divorce Rumors For “First And Last Time”
Teyana Taylor isn’t one to play with when it comes her family’s privacy. The retired musician released an official statement addressing reports of her impending divorce from Iman Shumpert.
“I mind my business, don’t bother nobody & y’all know I’ve never played about my children, family, & our privacy,” wrote the 32-year-old on Instagram. “I have not spoken on this private matter to any media outlets or blogs etc. So everyone claiming ‘Teyana said’ didn’t get any statements directly from ME.”
Taylor added, “It is very heartbreaking that someone would take out the time to make such a private matter public for the world to see. However, protecting my family is one thing I’ve ALWAYS done & for my children, I will continue to do. Please if y’all love y’all play nieces, Junie & Rue, like y’all have shown, please allow myself & my family some privacy to resolve this matter in peace. Love y’all.”
The alleged statements stemmed from leaked court documents that Taylor tried to conceal using her and Shumpert’s initials. However, the latter filed a motion on Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 22) to use both of their full, legal names in the divorce petition, which has led to the now-public news of the filing. According to Taylor’s attorney, the divorce was kept private for 11 months before Shumpert’s motion.
His attorney released a statement after his filed motion. Per TMZ, it read, “Mr. Shumpert hopes parties and counsel can work toward a fair resolution, keeping the best interests of the children of paramount concern.”
In the petition, Shumpert was accused of extreme emotional and mental abuse towards his estranged wife. Plus, the A Thousand And One star now considers their marriage to be “irretrievably broken.” Taylor is seeking primary physical custody, joint legal custody, and child support.
The two were together for 10 years, married for seven, and share two daughters, Junie and Rue. Taylor confirmed their separation in September.
