Thanos creator Jim Starlin to adapt his epic sci-fi comic 'Dreadstar' for TV

Comics-inspired TV is booming right now, and the latest story to make the leap from the page to the small screen is Dreadstar, renowned writer/artist Jim Starlin’s grand sci-fi epic about the sole survivor of the Milky Way galaxy.

EW has confirmed that Starlin will be collaborating with Universal Cable Productions and Benderspink to adapt the comic for television. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news. No network has been announced yet, but this marks the second time Dreadstar has been marked for adaptation—a year ago, Starlin had teamed with Benderspink to adapt his spacefaring story for film.

A comics mainstay for over 40 years, writer and artist Jim Starlin stretched the limits of the Marvel Universe into the strange and psychedelically cosmic. He created the villain Thanos (portrayed by Josh Brolin in Guardians of the Galaxy) and authored seminal stories like The Death of Captain Marvel. Dreadstar, however, was all Starlin—the story of Vanth Dreadstar’s attempts to live a peaceful life in the cosmos before being thrust into the middle of a grand conflict between two forces: the autocratic Monarchy, and the religious Church of Instrumentality.
