‘The A Word’ Sneak Peek: Maurice Shows His True Feelings for Louise
If you haven’t been watching this utterly charming family drama on Sundance TV, the scene above is but one of the reasons why you’ve been missing out on one of the summer’s best new series.
In Wednesday’s “Goodbye” episode of The A Word, grandpa Maurice (The Leftovers and Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston) finally gets the nerve to let love interest Louise (Pooky Quesnel) know how he feels about her.

Unfortunately for him, local music teacher Louise also knows the only reason Maurice is suddenly emboldened enough to plant a smooch on her during his lesson is that he suspects his best friend also has his eye on her, and she lets Maurice know she’s less than impressed with his Romeo-come-lately actions.

Elsewhere in the penultimate episode of Season 1 — all the more binge-worthy since it’s been renewed for a second season that’ll premiere in 2017 — Paul (Lee Ingleby) is crushed to find out he and Alison (Morven Christie) have different ideas on expanding their brood, and when a family friend is forced to move away, Alison worries about the impact it will have on autistic son Joe (Max Vento).
The A Word airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on Sundance TV.
