'The Batman' is back in production after Robert Pattinson is cleared of COVID-19
It’s back to the Batcave for The Batman... and the Dark Knight himself, Robert Pattinson. Two weeks after the actor reportedly tested positive for COVID-19, Variety is reporting that Pattinson has been given the all-clear to return to the movie’s U.K. set. “Following a hiatus for COVID 19 quarantine precautions, filming has now resumed on The Batman in the U.K.,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson confirmed to the outlet, without mentioning the movie’s star by name. Production ceased on September 3 when Vanity Fair broke the news of Pattinson’s diagnosis, starting the clock on the 14-day quarantine period required by The Batman’s coronavirus-mandated safety procedures.
During the two-week hiatus, members of the crew reportedly continued to work on the latest big-budget reboot of the studio’s invaluable film franchise, with some sources suggesting that director Matt Reeves would continue to shoot select sequences with Pattinson’s stunt double. Warner Bros. dismissed those reports to Variety, insisting that cameras stopped rolling after September 3 as much of the cast and crew followed the star into quarantine.
The first signs that Pattinson’s period of self-isolation might be over came on Wednesday when photographers spotted him out and about in London accompanied by his girlfriend, Suki Waterhouse. (This time, they were both wearing masks.) With at least 75 percent of the film still waiting to be shot, though, the new Bruce Wayne has a long road ahead of him. And audiences have a long time to wait until The Batman swings into theaters. Warner Bros. has announced an October 1, 2021 release date, but any additional delays — not to mention the questionable future of movie theaters — might mean The Batman will move to another Bat-time and another Bat-channel.
