'This Is Us' introduces all new characters, leaving fans super confused
Warning: Spoilers ahead from the Season 4 premiere episode of ‘This Is Us.’
Season 4 of This Is Us premiered Tuesday night with a bunch of brand new characters.
First, Jennifer Morrison made her debut as Cassie Sharp, a U.S. Army officer who returns home and struggles to acclimate back into family life alongside her husband, played by Nick Wechsler. Our second new character is Malik, played by Asante Blackk, a young teenager with a baby daughter named Janelle. Finally, we were introduced to an unnamed blind musician, portrayed by Blake Stadnik, who develops a relationship with a waitress named Lucy.
Spliced in are flashbacks to Jack and Rebecca's budding relationship, and the first time Jack met Rebecca's parents. However, the majority of the premiere featured our three new characters, so fans were a little confused. Some viewers even took to Twitter to say they felt like they were watching "a whole new show."

Since this isn't our first This Is Us rodeo, fans knew the new characters were going to somehow connect to our beloved Pearsons and, honestly, none of us was quite ready.
At the end of the episode, we found out that Cassie's storyline will connect with present-day Nicky, likely over their shared PTSD. Malik and Deja are going to be a thing, which will probably give Randall Pearson a heart attack, and the unnamed blind musician is Kate and Toby's son, Jack, all grown up! Mind blowing.

In true This Is Us fashion, some fans were a mess by the end of the show because only Dan Fogelman and his team of extraordinary writers could introduce us to brand new characters and, in less than an hour, have us completely attached.
This Is Us airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on NBC.
