'Thoroughbreds' trailer: First look at Anton Yelchin's final performance in dark coming-of-age comedy
The Hollywood community is still mourning the loss of actor Anton Yelchin, who passed away in a shocking accident in June 2016 at the age of 27. Fortunately, we will always have his films. The first teaser trailer for Thoroughbreds, the last of Yelchin’s movies to be released after his death, has just hit the internet. The black comedy stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Olivia Cooke as Lily and Amanda, two upper-class Connecticut teenagers whose friendship takes a dark turn when they decide to conspire against Lily’s despised stepfather. Yelchin plays Tim, a “local hustler” whom the girls hire to do some dirty work — but judging from the teaser, he may be in a little over his head. Watch it above. (Warning: strong language.)
Rising star Yelchin died shortly after the release of the critically acclaimed horror film Green Room and a month before the release of Star Trek: Beyond, his last Star Trek film in the role of Chekhov. Several independent films in which he appears been released posthumously this year, including the romantic drama Porto; the sci-fi film Rememory; and the dysfunctional-family drama We Don’t Belong Here. This past weekend, his friends, family, and colleagues, including Jennifer Lawrence, Demi Moore, J.J. Abrams, and Zoe Saldana, gathered at the Hollywood Forever Cementary in Los Angeles for a celebration of the actor’s life and the unveiling of Yelchin’s memorial statue.
Thoroughbreds opens in select theaters on March 9, 2018.
