'Tigirlily Gold' to make national TV debut on 'Hoda and Jenna' show
Oct. 14—GRAND FORKS — North Dakota natives Kendra Jo and Krista Jade Slaugaugh, who make up the "Tigirlily Gold" sisters duo, will make their national TV debut Monday, Oct. 16, on the "Today with Hoda and Jenna" show, which airs at 11 a.m. (CT) on NBC.
For Kendra Jo and Krista Jade, natives of Hazen, a town of 5,000 in west-central North Dakota, making their national TV appearance is a dream realized, according to an announcement from their public relations firm.
Growing up as small-town girls, "we always had big city dreams of playing shows such as the Today Show, and this week that dream is actually coming true," they said in the news release. "We are so excited to meet Hoda and Jenna, and play some country music in NYC!"
The sisters have spent more than five years honing their craft in Nashville's Lower Broadway district, perfecting their charisma and songwriting. A product of years spent entertaining the rowdy Lower Broadway crowds, their debut EP "Blonde," released earlier this year, captures that energy while highlighting their versatile songwriting talent.
The bold opening title track, "Blonde," inspired by Dolly Parton, goes beyond describing a hair color, but instead depicts a state of mind while encouraging girls to live unapologetically.
The EP ends with "Shoot Tequila," showcasing the singers' ability to entertain. American Songwriter magazine declared that it "packs an energy-filled punch that's tailor-made for country radio." The upbeat party anthem is reminiscent of the push and pull of a toxic relationship, alluding to the irresistible temptation of caving to the "bad influence" of a tequila-induced night, according to the news release.
The sisters have been playing music together since they could walk; they officially formed their band in high school. Performing across the Midwest, the band built a fierce fan base and sold out amphitheaters throughout North Dakota.
After moving to Nashville, they landed a weekly residence at Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row on Nashville's famed Lower Broadway. Playing four-hour sets, three or four nights a week, the sisters developed a performance style "that's not only captivating and fun, but shows just how much entertaining is in their blood," according to the announcement.
After the release of their original song, "Somebody Does," in 2021, the duo watched their track top the iTunes chart and they signed to Monument Records. They released their self-titled, debut EP in July 2021, working with multi-Grammy Award winner Shane McAnally, and hit the road with artists like Walker Hayes and Ashley McBryde.
They've embarked on their newest venture with their EP "Blonde," a deeply personal project that includes tales of love and loss alongside powerful anthems and songs of female empowerment.
Their current single, "Shoot Tequila," has already gained viral success with millions of views across social media, and millions of streams across platforms. The song is climbing the country radio charts, and the sisters are "ready to bring girl group energy back to country music," promoters say.
