Tim Commerford of Rage Against the Machine's Divorce Finalized over 5 Years After His Wife Filed
The bass player's ex-wife Aleece Dimas originally filed for divorce after 17 years of marriage in November 2018
Rage Against the Machine bassist Tim Commerford and Aleece Dimas have resolved their divorce.
According to documents obtained by PEOPLE, the musician, 55, and his now-ex-wife finalized their divorce on Monday, just over five years after Dimas initially filed for the dissolution of their marriage back in November 2018.
The former couple will divide their bank accounts and Dimas will give the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer an "equalization payment," per the papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. The documents state Dimas will pay Commerford a sum of $1,850,000 out of one of their formerly joint accounts "in order to equalize the division of assets and debts," as she was awarded property that they previously shared.
Commerford — who shares adult sons Quentin, 19, and Xavier, 21, with Dimas — will also pay spousal support. The documents state that Dimas will receive a monthly spousal support payment of $18,700.

The filing stated "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the divorce.
Dimas originally filed for divorce from the Rage Against the Machine member after 17 years of marriage on Nov. 28, 2018 in a Los Angeles County court. In the initial filing, which was obtained by PEOPLE, Dimas had requested physical custody of their two sons, who were minors at the time, and spousal support.
It wasn't until Feb. 25, 2020 that Commerford responded to the petition.
Upon the initial filing, the bass player shared a statement with PEOPLE to confirm their split. “After 17 years of marriage to Aleece Dimas, I am saddened to announce our divorce,” Commerford said. “This decision was made after much careful thought and consideration.”
He continued, “I want to send my deepest appreciation to my family and friends who have supported us through these changes. We remain committed and loving parents to our two boys. Our family asks in advance for your kindness and sensitivity at this difficult time.”
The two tied the knot in May 2002 and shared a home in Malibu, California with their children until their split.

In December 2022, Commerford revealed in an interview with SPIN that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The heavy rock artist told the outlet that, although he was struggling with remaining positive amid the diagnosis, his sons and his girlfriend were being very supportive.
"Prostate cancer is a very, very, very tough one because it's connected to your sexuality," the bassist said. "It's hard to disconnect from that and when you're forced into that situation, it's a brutal psychological journey. I've been trying to find support groups, and it's hard to find people and hard to talk about it."
He shared, "I've been someone that's taken a lot of pride in being in shape and taking care of myself. But it's something where either you're either lucky or not."

Commerford also explained to the outlet that he was on the road to recovery and doing his best to remain healthy and in shape.
Earlier that year, the musician set out on several dates of a reunion tour with Rage Against the Machine, which ended up being canceled early after frontman Zack de la Rocha experienced a "severe tear" in an onstage injury.
When the tour still hadn’t been rescheduled for nearly a year and a half, drummer Brad Wilk informed fans with a post on Instagram just last week that they had no plans to tour or play live together again.
Despite the heavy rock group’s plans being thwarted, Commerford continues to work on his own music. Recently in December 2023, he and his bandmates in the project 7D7D released their latest single, “Written on a Napkin."
