Timbaland, Steely Dan and Hillary Lindsey Among 2024 Songwriters Hall of Fame Inductees

The Songwriters Hall of Fame's 2024 Induction and Awards Gala will be held on June 13 in New York City

The 2024 class of Songwriters Hall of Fame inductees is here!

On Wednesday, the organization revealed Timbaland, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely Dan, Hillary Lindsey, R.E.M. and Dean Pitchford will join the Songwriters Hall of Fame at the upcoming 2024 Induction and Awards Gala.

Grammy-winning musician, Chic co-founder and Songwriters Hall of Fame chairman Nile Rodgers spoke about the group of musicians in a press statement: "I’ve said it before, but the music industry does not exist without songwriters delivering great songs first," he said. "Without them there is no recorded music, no concert business, no merch . . . nothing, it all starts with the song and the songwriter."

Rodgers, 71, continued, "We are therefore very proud that we are continually recognizing some of the culturally most important songwriters of all time and that the 2024 slate represents not just iconic songs but also diversity and unity across genres, ethnicity and gender, songwriters who have enriched our lives and literally enriched music and the lives of billions of listeners all over the world."

Each of this year's inductees has lent their pen to several massive hit songs throughout their storied careers. Timbaland (whose real name is Timothy Mosley), 51, has earned Grammy Awards for his work on Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack" and Beyoncé's "Drunk in Love," while he's also notched No. 1 hits with Missy Elliott's "Get Ur Freak On" and his own "Give It to Me" featuring Timberlake and Nelly Furtado.

Steely Dan co-founders Fagen, 76, and Becker (who died in 2017) have earned several platinum-certified albums as well as three top-10 hits on Billboard Hot 100 over the jazz rock band's career: "Do It Again," "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" and "Hey Nineteen."

Lindsey has long remained behind the scenes of country music, but anyone who's tuned into the radio since the late '90s knows a few of her songs. She's co-written Carrie Underwood's "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and Little Big Town's "Girl Crush," as well as Lady Gaga's "Always Remember Us This Way" from A Star Is Born and "Million Reasons."

R.E.M. members Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Michael Stipe — who've already been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame — will be recognized for their writing skills on songs including "Losing My Religion," "Everybody Hurts," "It's the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine)," "Radio Free Europe" and "The One I Love."

Oscar and Golden Globe recipient Pitchford has composed for pop icons like Whitney Houston and Cher, musicals like Fame and Footloose and films including The Lizzie McGuire Movie and Bambi II. Listeners across several generations know his songs: "Footloose," "Fame," "Holding Out for a Hero," "What Dreams Are Made Of" and so many more.

Additional 2024 Songwriters Hall of Fame award honorees will be announced soon. This year's Induction and Awards Gala is set to be held on June 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
