Timothée Chalamet Launches Into Song as Bob Dylan in First Trailer for “A Complete Unknown”
Timothée Chalamet performs Bob Dylan's "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall" in the first trailer for 'A Complete Unknown,' in theaters this December
Timothée Chalamet is Bob Dylan!
On Wednesday, July 24, Searchlight Pictures released its first trailer for its upcoming movie A Complete Unknown, which stars Chalamet, 28, as iconic folk and rock musician Dylan. The film covers Dylan's early years in New York City and initial rise to fame in the 1960s.
The trailer meets Edward Norton as the musician Pete Seeger as he introduces an audience to a young Dylan, portrayed by the 28-year-old Oscar nominee — before Dylan takes the stage for a performance of "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall."
As Chalamet performs as Dylan, the film shows glimpses of the musician's performances, travels around New York City and first glimpses at costars Elle Fanning and Monica Barbaro, the latter of whom plays Dylan's girlfriend Joan Baez.
The trailer ends with Dylan finishing performing a song for Seeger and his family, with one of Seeger's daughters amusingly telling the soon-to-be famous musician his song is a "good start."
"Set in the influential New York music scene of the early 60s, A Complete Unknown follows 19-year-old Minnesota musician Bob Dylan's meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts – his songs and mystique becoming a worldwide sensation – culminating in his groundbreaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965," reads an official synopsis for the movie.

Chalamet was first seen on the New York City set of A Complete Unknown for filming back in March and was later seen filming musical performances with Barbaro, 34, at Echo Lake Park, New Jersey in April. He was also spotted on set spending time with Fanning, 26, that same month.
Chalamet appeared to take on significant research in order to play the folk music legend; in January, he visited Dylan's high school in Hibbing, Minnesota, and spent time with the school's drama students while staying in Dylan's hometown.
The movie also stars Boyd Holbrook, Dan Fowler, Norbert Leo Butz and Scoot McNairy; it's directed by James Mangold (Walk the Line), who cowrote the script with Jay Cocks.
A Complete Unknown does not yet have a specific release date, but it will begin playing in theaters in December, per a release.
