Timothée Chalamet got out-Chalamet'd at his own look-alike contest.

The "Wonka" actor showed up at New York City's Washington Square Park on Sunday, where hundreds of lean, curly-haired people were gathered for the look-alike costume contest, as seen in social media posts. Some look-alikes dressed as the actor's Willy Wonka portrayal or his "Dune" character Paul Atreides, while some opted for his casual, everyday New York style.

In one video obtained by USA TODAY, a Chalamet, with noticeably shorter hair than the others in a black sweater and baseball cap, crashes a photo being taken, with the crowd audibly starting to recognize the real actor.

YouTuber Anthony Po organized the event, which resulted in a $500 fine from the New York Police Department.

In an email, the NYPD confirmed it responded to an "unscheduled demonstration" in Washington Square Park and said four people were arrested and later released with a summons. NYPD did not specify what charges the individuals were arrested under. Video from The Cut showed police putting one Chalamet look-alike in handcuffs.

Po's team wrote in an email to USA TODAY Monday that it was working with one of the people arrested to try to help cover fees and fines. "Thanks Timothee for pulling up!" they added. "We hope you had fun and that this sells more tickets for your next movie."

USA TODAY has reached out to Chalamet's reps for comment.

The winner of the contest, who won a $50 prize, was a "Wonka" impersonator named Miles Mitchell, the Associated Press and GQ reported.

Few people opted for the actor's Bob Dylan portrayal, as that likely would be a bit confusing. Chalamet is set to star as the legendary "The Times They Are A-Changin'" singer in the musical biopic "A Complete Unknown."

Set in New York in the early 1960s, "A Complete Unknown" follows Dylan's "meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts – his songs and mystique becoming a worldwide sensation – culminating in his groundbreaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965," according to the synopsis.

"A Complete Unknown" hits theaters in December.
