Timothee Chalamet comes to Jersey City's White Mana to film Bob Dylan biopic
Is New Jersey the new Hollywood?
The filming of blockbuster movies continues in the Garden State as The White Mana in Jersey City hosted shooting for the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown" starring Timothée Chalamet as Dylan.
The owner of the famous burger joint, Mario Costa, confirmed that production for the film lasted most of the week starting on Monday with prep work that continued on to Tuesday and ended on Thursday with putting all the equipment away for the next stages of the movies.
Wednesday was when the filming happened, which Costa says began at around 6 a.m. and lasted until around 4 a.m. The owner also confirmed Chalamet, fresh off the success of his most recent movie "Dune Part Two," was on set.
Costa who bought the place in 1979 says he is "humbled to have an opportunity to participate in this project. I will treasure this experience."
Despite the long nights and little sleep, Costa was ecstatic that his restaurant was chosen to be a part of the "The Complete Unknown" as he says these moments will stay with him for a lifetime.
The restaurant which opened in 1946 was selected after movie scouts visited the iconic burger place. Costa says the eatery is no stranger to famous celebrities. He told NorthJersey.com people such as Frankie Valli, Mike Tyson and rapper/singer Akon have visited White Mana in the past.
About 60 to 100 people were on set from actors and actresses to the production crew, according to Costa. He was unsure how many scenes were shot on Wednesday.
Costa loved the irony that his shop is hosting the production of a Bob Dylan film because he says he is good friends with New York writer Larry Sloman, who has written books about the famous singer.
He is looking forward to returning to his normal life as the the shop opens back up to customers on Friday for their regular business hours.
Jerry Nardella who works for the New Jersey entertainment developers says the film still may have another two months of shooting, but can not confirm if it will be in New Jersey.
No release date has been announced for the movie, which also stars Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash and Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, according to IMDB.
