Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie were recently elated to get some exciting baby news from a former colleague.
On Tuesday, May 14, the Today stars were joined by Kristen Welker, who used to host the weekend installment of the broadcast, and her husband, John Hughes, who had big news to share about growing their family.
"John and I are thrilled to announce we're welcoming our second baby into our family with the help of another amazing surrogate. We're so excited," Welker said on the show, adding that "it's been a little bit of a secret this time."
"Sharing our story about our struggles with infertility and our journey to becoming parents has been so rewarding and we hope that our news offers hope to others who are trying to build their own families," the broadcast journalist continued.
The couple already has one child, daughter Margot, who's "so excited" to be getting a baby brother.
"She's been telling all of her classmates that she's getting a baby brother for her birthday because her birthday is in June and he's due just a few weeks earlier," Welker added.
Before welcoming Margot in June 2021, the couple decided to find a surrogate after a years-long infertility journey that included several failed rounds of in vitro fertilization (IVF).
"She is the love of our lives and every day is a new adventure and just watching the world through her eyes is the greatest gift and joy and blessing," she said at the time, adding, "So we're just doing so great."
Last month, a few of the other Today stars were in for a surprise after learning about another colleague's pregnancy.
Co-hosts Dylan Dreyer, Sheinelle Jones and Al Roker were shocked during the third hour of Today on Tuesday, April 23, when a valued member of their team, foreign correspondent Molly Hunter, revealed she was nine months pregnant—and they had no idea.
