Tom Brady Reveals Bench Press Max Weight and Gives an Inside Look at His Workout
With nearly half of his life spent playing professional football, Tom Brady is no stranger to the gym. It's been a long time, however, since the seven-time Super Bowl champ hit his max bench press.
In an Aug. 29 video on Brady's YouTube channel, the football phenom gave an inside look at his workouts these days and even attempted to reach his max bench press after nearly two decades. He admitted he last hit his max bench press in "Probably '05, '06, '07 with [Patriots quarterback] Matt Cassel and I just grinding it out to see who could lift more."
"I think the most I do is like 225 for like eight or nine [reps]," he continued. "I always feel like if you can do your body weight ten times, that's a great goal."
Brady begins by making easy work of 155 pounds on the bar, though he admitted he might struggle as he'd benched just the day before. He noted that this wasn't exactly be the type of workout he'd do if he wanted to come out of retirement for a second time. "If I was trying to unretire I would not be doing this," he stated plainly.
Brady claimed to be struggling but wasted no time in kicking it up a notch. "I haven't done 225 yet," he said. He then clears the 225-pound mark with ease. But he doesn't stop there, aiming for potentially biggest max bench ever.
"If you told me this morning that I had to do 245, I'd be like, 'You're out of your f--king mind,'" the 47-year-old said. After correcting his form, he successfully notches one rep at the 245-pound mark. "Not to brag about myself, but I'm a great athlete," he said after putting it away.
Brady will begin his first season as an NFL game commentator for Fox starting Sept. 8.
