Tom Cruise Does a Major Stunt at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony — See It Here!
For decades, Tom Cruise has been improving his cool factor with each move he makes. Whether it be flying his own planes in Top Gun: Maverick or doing his own stunts film after film, this fearless hunk never fails to surprise us — although this time, he just might have pushed the envelope a smidge further.
It was reported in previous weeks that the 62-year old actor (yes, he’s somehow 62!) would be playing a significant part in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games’ Closing Ceremony — and at Sunday's big event, the rumors proved to be true! Cruise took the ceremony by storm when he skydived down onto the field of the Stade de France. After his landing, he made his way to the stage where he met Simone Biles standing next to the Olympic flag for the handoff. The stunt led into a pre-recorded video which featured Cruise riding his motorcycle with the flag in tow, hopping on a plane and jumping out over Los Angeles, the next Summer Olympics host city.
The actor, who had been spotted multiple times at this year’s Olympic Games, has never been one to shy away from a challenge, and if he were to be a part of the Games in any capacity, it seems fitting that this is how he’d do it!
Does Tom Cruise do his own stunts?
Tom Cruise has notoriously done a large portion of his own stunts over the course of his career, so a quick skydive is seemingly nothing to the accomplished actor. Some of his most impressive feats include ejecting from the jet in Top Gun (1986), crashing cars, scaling his way up the side of a skyscraper and more. For Cruise, pushing his body to its limit is just a part of the job. And his co-stars most certainly take notice of the work he puts into his craft.
“Tom is very, very diligent when it comes to preparing for these things,” said actor Simon Pegg in a 2023 interview with CBS News ahead of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One. “He's not crazy. Everyone says, oh, he must be crazy. He does, you know, but he trains hard. Everything is in place. It's a well-oiled machine," Pegg explained.
Tom Cruise doesn’t take his job lightly
Despite the fact that he’s one of the most accomplished action stars of the last several decades, Cruise is more than just a Hollywood movie star. “I strive for excellence,” he told CNN in 2023.
“There’s always another story to tell, there’s always another mountain to climb. And I always feel like I can do it better,” he said. “I’m not the kind of person that will beat myself up, but I’m constantly working to become competent and strive to understand my craft and the world, and just keep pushing myself.”
