Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson's Home Targeted in Burglary
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were the latest victims in a string of Southern California home burglaries when their Los Angeles home was broken into, according to law enforcement sources.
As TMZ reported, a guest house on the celeb couple's property was robbed several weeks ago when thieves smashed through glass in broad daylight to get inside, apparently undeterred by the alarm they set off. Hanks and Wilson were out of town when the crime occurred, and no one was harmed. It's not clear what was stolen from the house. Suspects are thought to be part of the many crews that have been committing robberies in high-end Los Angeles neighborhoods recently.

Somewhat coincidentally, Hanks' second-youngest son Chet, 34, foiled a robbery attempt at his Los Angeles residence in 2023, as Parade previously reported. Unlike his parents, Chet was home during the attempted 3 a.m. break-in and managed to punch the suspect before police arrived. However, the thief continued to fight back even as he was being arrested, falling backward onto one of the officers as he was being led to a police car and breaking the deputy's leg. Chet was not harmed in the incident.
Hanks and Wilson appeared on the red carpet earlier this year alongside Chet and their son Truman, 28, at the premiere of the war drama series Masters of the Air, executive-produced by Hanks. At the time, Wilson reminisced about seeing movies at the Regency Village Theatre in L.A. (where the premiere was held) years before.
"I remember standing in line to see Star Wars here, the original Star Wars," said Wilson.
