1. b) Chapin Street. Harry Chapin frequently played at the UI, including the Auditorium, the Assembly Hall and in 1981, a 42-hour dance marathon at Huff Gym to raise money to fight world hunger. The 1981 show also featured Steve Goodman.

2. c) Trombonist Jim Pugh.

3. d) Ellington played at Huff Gym on Nov. 4, 1939, at the annual Student-Alumni Homecoming Dance. Tickets were $2 (about $45 in today's dollars).

4. d) Marian Anderson sang here at least four times: 1941, 1942, 1950 and 1959. In 1964, she came back to receive an honorary doctorate in music.

5. c) Ludacris. He was born in Champaign on Sept. 11, 1977.

6. c) "Brother" Jack McDuff, born in 1926, died Jan. 23, 2001.

7. b) Alison Krauss. Her first Grammy was in 1990; her most recent was in 2012.

8. c) Les Paul and Mary Ford joined jazz musician J.J. Johnson and the UI Jazz Band for a March 2, 1963, concert at the brand-new arena. The building was formally dedicated on May 3.

13. c) The Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Eugene Ormandy, performed on May 2, 1969, at Krannert.

14. b) Edythe Wright. Sinatra joined the Dorsey band in 1940.

15. a) Allen Sherman came to the UI in 1940, majored in journalism and wrote the Campus Scout column in the Daily Illini. Sherman's roommate at one time was Larry Stewart, later the station manager at WDWS-AM.
