Toni Braxton Questions God In New ‘The Braxtons’ Sneak Peek

Toni Braxton, her sisters Trina, Towanda, Tamar, and their mother Evelyn are returning to reality TV with their new show, The Braxtons. Episode two premieres tonight, and VIBE is teasing a new, exclusive clip.

The latest series centers around the women reuniting and coming to terms with the loss of their sister, Traci, while fans receive a “raw and unfiltered look at the family’s highs and lows.” In this preview of the next episode titled “Healing Takes Time,” the five women sit with a grief counselor. Emotions run high as they unpack the gravity of Traci’s absence.

As the eldest, Toni details her feeling more angry than sad, especially about her own health concerns.

“Before Traci passed, I was kinda angry at God,” said the “Breathe Again” singer. “Why would God take her? I thought it was unfair. It’s unfair that Traci’s the one that’s sick. The one that dying, and I have lupus because I felt like I was the one that was gonna die first.”

Admittedly, Toni uses her music to cope and “self-medicate,” but she finds herself wanting to return to the period “just before” her career took off. “The innocence in it? It soothes me. It gives me inner peace because I was hungry. It was innocent. I’m so beyond grateful for what I have, but going back to a time in my life before I made it makes me feel at peace.”

She explains it’s because there were “less responsibilities” and “more hope for the future.” The 56-year-old artist is aware that she needs to process her grief while giving herself grace and seems open enough to figure out how to do both at once.

We TV teased that one family member “leaves therapy unexpectedly,” which causes “tensions to flare” and ultimately, Mama Evelyn takes over. Over the series’ eight episodes, The Braxton women each navigate their personal lives while attempting to fulfill Traci’s last wish to strengthen their familial bond.

The musical family’s return to TV comes three years after they ended their hit series, Braxton Family Values, which ran for seven seasons.

The Braxtons‘ second episode premieres on Friday, Aug. 16, at 9:30 pm ET/PT on We TV. All episodes will also stream on ALLBLK.
