“As someone who has a special place in their heart for theater and the arts – with my roots as a Broadway performer – the opportunity to host the American Express simulcast is truly meaningful,” said Astin in a statement. “Theater has always been about community, and this event will bring people closer to the incredible talent and magic of Broadway for an unforgettable experience.”
PREVIOUS, May 8: A Tony Awards simulcast event called Broadway Fanfare will take place outdoors at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park during the awards ceremony on Sunday, June 16.
Sponsored by American Express, the event will be open to the general public and will include a 7:30 p.m./ET pre-show featuring performances and appearances by notable Broadway talent. According American Express, “the event will give attendees an opportunity to partake in Broadway’s most prestigious awards ceremony through various onsite activations and photo moments.”
“We are thrilled to welcome American Express as the Official Payments Partner of the Tony Awards,” said Heather Hitchens, president and CEO of the American Theatre Wing and Jason Laks, interim president of the Broadway League. “We anticipate a spectacular evening celebrating the magic and diversity of Broadway, bringing the excitement of the Tony Awards to theater fans everywhere.”
“At American Express, we are dedicated to providing our Card Members with unforgettable experiences tied to their passion areas – including theater and the arts – which is what makes this partnership so special,” said Shiz Suzuki, vice president, Global Brand Sponsorships & Experiential Marketing, American Express.
Damrosch Park houses a performance stage and seating for about 1,900, and is located on the Lincoln Center campus on Manhattan’s Upper West Side behind Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater, where the 77th Annual Tony Awards, hosted by Ariana DeBose, will be held.
This year’s Tonys will be held for the first time at the Koch Theater, and due to reduced seating (compared to previous venues like Radio City Music Hall), the small number of tickets for the general public will not be available.
The awards ceremony airs live on Sunday, June 16, 2024 (8:00-11:00 PM ET/5:00-8:00 PM PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S.
