Tori Spelling says 'Beverly Hills, 90210' cast is reuniting for new show – but not everyone is involved
The Beverly Hills, 90210 gang is getting back together.
Tori Spelling, who played Donna Martin on all 10 seasons of the teen drama, which aired from 1990 to 2000, has announced that a new version of the Fox hit is in the works, although it sounds like it will be a lot different.
“It’s confirmed, we’re doing a new 90210!” Spelling announced Friday on Access Live.
Spelling, whose late father Aaron Spelling was the executive producer of the show, shared the news after the hosts asked her about paparazzi photos snapped last month of her with other original 90210 cast members, including Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green and Ian Ziering. She said the group had been grabbing coffee in between meeting with networks.
“It is the OG crew back together,” Spelling said. “And we’re playing heightened versions of ourselves. So the fans will be pleasantly surprised, though, because we will intercut that with scenes from the show. So it’ll be a whole ensemble cast playing a heightened version of themselves, almost everybody.”
Don’t expect to see much of Luke Perry, who played the brooding Dylan McKay, who now portrays a father on Riverdale, the CW’s hit adaptation of the “Archie” comics.
“Well, Luke has Riverdale, so Luke will do as many as he can do, but almost the whole original cast,” Spelling said.
When asked about Shannen Doherty, who was one of 90210′s central characters until she left the show in 1994, Spelling said no.
“We would love to have her on,” Spelling offered. “There is no status right now, but if she’s watching, we’d love to have you do it.”
No word on whether core cast members Jason Priestley, Gabrielle Carteris or Tiffani Thiessen (who joined the show in its fifth season) will be involved. Ditto for Joe E. Tata, who was a fixture of the original show as the owner of the group’s hangout, the Peach Pit, or the actors who played the teens’ parents.
Beverly Hills, 90210 was modernized back in 2008. In that one, AnnaLynne McCord, Tristan Wilds, Shenae Grimes and others played the students, while Spelling, Garth, Doherty and Priestley made guest appearances. It lasted five seasons.
